Conference showcases latest advances in wear and friction performance

New developments in the rigorous testing of coating materials are set to further reinforce the reliability of machinery and mechanical systems.

Research on how new testing innovations improve wear and friction performance will be presented at the 24th International Colloquium Tribology between the 23rd to 25th January.

Michael Katzer, Global Business Development Manager Automotive and Distribution, at Versiv Composites will present the company’s latest research, ‘Building tribology application testing to determine wear and characterisation of polymer-based composites’ at the event, which takes place in Stuttgart, Germany.

Sharing innovative research

The conference aims to highlight exciting developments that affect important areas of tribology and support the development of novel technologies that will have a strong impact on future sustainable development.

Tribology is crucial in various industries, including automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, and biomedical. It plays a significant role in optimising the performance, efficiency, and reliability of machinery and mechanical systems.By studying and controlling friction, wear, and lubrication, tribologists contribute to the development of more durable and efficient technologies.

Importance of tribology testing to coated films and coated fabrics

Tribology testing is vital for understanding, optimising, and predicting the frictional behaviour, wear resistance, and overall performance of polymer-based composites. It aids in material selection, performance optimization, design, failure analysis, quality control, and cost reduction, ultimately leading to enhanced product performance, durability, and sustainability.

Katzer’s presentation focuses on how Versiv Composites developed and then processed materials through a specific test matrix, providing conclusive evidence on how to improve coating formulations in the process. The findings are of note in improving wear and friction performance, with positive potential for the development of coated materials and various composite solutions.
